Apple Introduces iPhone Siri Beta, But No Mention On Canadian Site
With the release of the new iPhone 4S and the iOS 5 platform at Apple’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” event, held earlier today at their campus in California, there was also an introduction of a feature called Siri. As you can see in the video above, Siri is a robotic voice that assists the user with simple and sometimes even tedious tasks, such as checking the weather, pulling up the traffic on the way home from work, and also messaging your wife.
It is great to see Apple, yet again, innovate and improve software that isn’t exactly new. The Android OS has had voice activated searching and messaging from the beginning, and even though I was impressed with how the Android could handle certain words and sentences, I never felt it would be something I would use, unless I were driving (with a bluetooth headset, of course…) Siri provides direct feedback and a small feeling of comprehension, without the need to continuously press a button or even handle the device. Amongst the various possible uses for Siri, I’m very curious to see what developers can come up with.
Unfortunately Apple’s Canadian site currently does not mention the Siri beta, even though it’s on the American, French and German websites.
Were hoping it’s a mistake and something that will be cleared up soon. We’ll keep you posted!
