Samsung’s ChatON Messaging Service Now Live On Android, Others To Come, Canada Not Invited..Yet
Samsung’s very own cross-platform messaging service, ChatON, has just been launched and can be found on the respective marketplaces. However it seems Canada has received the short stick in terms of initial availability. Continue after the break for more.
We’ve previously received news of Samsung’s impressive take on cross-platform communication which provides a free texting solution to consumers. ChatON doesn’t just stop there, it offers a basis for group chat including multimedia sharing (videos, audio, images, and even user-created animations). The UI seems quite nice as seen below, providing a feel of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. The IM will be included in all of Samsung’s self operated Operating System, BADA 2.0, however those running Android or any of the other platforms will need to download it from their respective app markets. ChatON is currently only available on the Android platform, with others including iOS, Blackberry, and even PC, to come shortly. No word yet on Windows Phone 7 support though…
This all sounds great and we’d love to try it out and tell you all about it…but we can’t. It seems the service is currently unavailable in Canada as searches on both Canadian Android Market and Samsung’s “Samsung App”..application provides no indication of ChatON’s existence. Even going to the Android Market website provides a message of “unavailable in your region”. I could not copy this exact message but here’s a similar one to the left, denoting that my Samsung Galaxy S II running on the Bell network, is incompatible.
We’ve reached out to Samsung for a response but have not received any news. We would assume this should be enabled for Canadian’s in due time as it was announced that the service would be available in more than 120 countries and 25 different languages. We will keep you posted on any developments.
